Thames Valley Scar Clinic, July 2024
I have often driven past Ashurst Court and pondered how beautiful and immaculately maintained it is. When I saw a rental sign I immediately thought ‘I wonder if it would make a good clinic?’.
We had been looking for an appropriate space, and I knew as soon as I saw Unit 1 that we could make it into something special. We completed on the 31st May and the renovations begun!
So, what do you have to do to create a Scar, Rejuvenation and Laser Clinic?
Unit 1 Ashurst Court had been used as an IT office, so dark blue carpet tiles, grey metal blinds and dark stained wood – functional but from a design point dated.
The biggest challenge was making a treatment room that is Laser Protection Safe. We have a lot of glass surfaces that are highly reflective, so I put in white wooden shutters throughout the clinic that are both functional but work really well aesthetically. As Consultant Surgeons we know the importance of infection control, so all our flooring and units are both stylish but also eminently cleanable.
When it came to the design we wanted it to have a feeling of space, tranquility and naturalness so our patients feel relaxed and enjoy the experience. We kept the walls white and lightened the space by whitewashing the wooden beams. The flooring we sourced high quality acrylic, which was based on terrazzo and polished cement and fits the brief of naturally appealing.
The furniture is mostly Scandinavian, a mix of HAY, DECOTIQUE, POLSPOTTEN, Normann Copenhagen and Design House Stockholm – all designers I love and compliments the luxurious yet natural modern setting. Our treatment room is fitted out with the highest quality medical equipment, not to mentioned two state-of-the-art Lasers. Finally the reception desk I designed myself with Pink Terrazzo from Diespeker & Co, ably built by Kalen at KB Carpentry.
The clinic then has had rigorous inspections for all aspects of safety in our capacity as a surgical clinic. Only then were we happy to open the doors. I hope you will love the clinic as much as we do.
